We made chore charts today. First question out of Samson’s mouth was
“What do we get if we finish them?” You
get to continue to live in this house and eat without paying me room and board
(OK, maybe that is a little harsh for the 4 and 6 year old, but…it is what I
was thinking). Although we sat down and selected each of the chores to add to
the charts together, there was still some argument when it came time to
complete.
One of the chores is to empty the dishwasher. After much discussion and explaining, this
task (which usually takes me 5 minutes) took the boys 25 minutes (and I still
had to put the dishes away that they could not reach – which was most of them).
Lukie also decided it would be fun to
lick each clean fork that he took out of the dishwasher before he put it
away. I suddenly felt one of my
leadership flaws setting in…..rather than teach them how to do it or wait while
they learned, I just wanted to grab the dishes out of their hands and do it
myself! I resisted the urge and hopefully it will pay off in the end.
